Data from recent studies indicates that South Australia’s rate of diabetes is the highest in Australia. Not many South Australian residents are aware of this data because the media has not publicised it as it should.

The South Australia Minister for Health is worried and rightly so. One in 20 South Australian residents suffers from diabetes. This equates to 5.8 per cent or 100,000 South Australian citizens. If this rate is not controlled, the hospitals may soon be overwhelmed.

Type 2 diabetes is multifaceted condition and may be caused by a combination of factors. However, genetics and an unhealthy lifestyle are the major causes. While there is nothing you can do about your genetics, you can live a healthy lifestyle to either prevent or control type 2 diabetes.

Eating fatty and processed foods, drinking excessive alcohol and living a sedentary lifestyle results in obesity which in turn predisposes you to diabetes. It is therefore not shocking that the state of South Australia, known for its high obesity levels, has also been identified to have the highest rates of type 2 diabetes in Australia.

According to Diabetes Australia, the prevalence of diabetes in South Australia varies from one region to another. Low socio-economic areas, for instance, have higher rates compared to the more affluent areas.

Poorer regions such as Whyalla, Gawler,Mt Barker, Murray Bridge, Mt Gambier, and the River Lands recorded rates as high as 8 per cent while North Adelaide, Mitcham, Burnside, Unley and St Peters reported much lower prevalence rates.

The prevalence rates again point to lifestyle as a major factor contributing to occurrence of type 2 diabetes. Poor people have difficulty accessing fresh water and food, social amenities such as gyms for exercise, and are prone to stress. All these factors predispose them to obesity and subsequently diabetes.

Poor people also do not get regular medical check-ups thus are not diagnosed early enough to control the disease. This makes them end up suffering more severe complications such as loss of vision, kidney damage, anxiety and cardiovascular complications. Amputation may be necessary in extreme cases.

I will be discussing further details about this raging epidemic that is drastically affecting Northern and Western Adelaide residents. I’ll also tackle its impact on the patients in another blog post.

Healthier Lifestyle for Those with Type 2 Diabetes

One of the most effective ways to prevent or manage diabetes is by adopting a healthier lifestyle. However, making such changes is often easier said than done. Many individuals struggle to modify their eating habits and exercise routines, with many abandoning their efforts after just a few days.
This is where Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) and hypnosis can play a crucial role in fostering the mental resilience needed to make lasting lifestyle changes. NLP focuses on how our thoughts, language, and behavior patterns interact to shape our experiences. In the context of diabetes management, NLP helps reframe negative attitudes toward healthy dietary choices and exercise. Hypnosis, on the other hand, allows individuals to enter a relaxed, focused state where they are more open to positive suggestions, making it easier to adopt and maintain healthier habits.

Both NLP and hypnosis work on creating a mindset that makes sticking to healthy lifestyle changes less of a challenge. With the right mental framework, individuals can move beyond the initial stages of adopting new habits and follow through with long-term changes that significantly improve their health. For those committed to taking control of their weight and diabetes management, these techniques offer safe, drug-free alternatives that can yield lasting benefits.

If you are committed to taking your health into your own hands, NLP and hypnosis are the effective and safe drug free methods to manage your weight and reverse type 2 diabetes effects before it’s too late.
